This paper examines the symbiotic relationship between online discussion forums and the Bollywood film industry. Moving beyond traditional models of passive viewership, it argues that forums function as a third space—neither purely industrial nor purely domestic—where entertainment is dissected, valorized, and contested. Analyzing the evolution from early dial-up message boards (e.g., Indya.com, Yahoo! Groups) to contemporary Reddit communities (r/Bollywood) and specialized portals (Bollywood Hungama forums), this paper identifies four core functions: (1) Pre-release hyping and box office prediction; (2) Post-release textual analysis and cult canonization; (3) Archival rescue of forgotten films and music; and (4) Industrial influence through collective signalling.
