The proliferation of fake "free DNI search" websites poses serious risks. Many are phishing sites designed to collect DNIs and other data for identity theft. By entering a DNI on such a page, a user might be giving criminals the first piece of a puzzle to commit fraud – from applying for loans to opening bank accounts. Others lead to endless captchas, surveys, or paid subscriptions that never deliver results. As the Spanish cybersecurity institute INCIBE warns, "If a service seems too good to be true for personal data, it is almost certainly a trap."
