The film is set in rural Thailand during the Rattanakosin Kingdom era. Mak (Mario Maurer) is a young soldier drafted into a brutal war. He suffers a life-threatening injury but survives thanks to the magical love letters and prayers from his beautiful wife, Nak (Davika Hoorne). When the war ends, Mak returns to his riverside village with his four bumbling, loyal, and hilariously dim-witted friends: Ter, Puak, Shin, and Aey.
