An exiled alien general named Steppenwolf arrives on Earth to reclaim three Mother Boxes —ancient, sentient machines of immense power. By "synchronizing" these boxes, he intends to create "The Unity," which would terraform Earth into a wasteland for his master, Darkseid .
Visually, this is pure Zack Snyder. The aspect ratio is presented in 4:3 (think IMAX, but on your TV screen), filling the frame vertically. While it takes some getting used to, it lends the film a comic-book panel aesthetic that feels monumental.
