The digitization of music has democratized access to archival sounds, yet it has also fostered a grey market for unauthorized distributions. This paper examines the phenomenon surrounding the online demand to download mixtapes and DJ mix MP3 songs of Akosua Agyapong, a renowned Ghanaian Highlife and Gospel vocalist. By analyzing user behavior on audio platforms and peer-to-peer networks, this study explores the tension between preserving Ghanaian musical heritage and upholding copyright law. Findings suggest that the desire for downloadable mixtapes stems from inadequate streaming infrastructure in West Africa, a high demand for nostalgic party rhythms, and the role of the DJ as a cultural archivist operating outside formal legal frameworks.
